  7. 2 lb lean ground beef
  8. Sauce
  9. 30 oz tomato sauce (no/low sodium)
  10. 28 oz crushed tomatoes (undrained)
  11. 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  12. 3 tbsp chili powder
  13. 1 tbsp garlic powder
  14. 2 tsp ground cumin
  15. 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  16. 1 tsp smoked paprika
  17. 1 tsp chipotle (or regular) pepper flakes (adjust to taste)
  18. (to taste) salt
  19. (to taste) pepper
  20. 1 cup water (if needed)
  21. Beans (OPTIONAL)
  22. 32 oz red kidney beans (rinsed and drained)

Instructions to make to make Classic Chili

  1. Prep ingredients.
  2. Heat a soup kettle or Dutch oven. Once hot, heat the oil in prep for sautéing the veggies.
  3. Add the Veggies and sauté until tender. ~15 min.
  4. If you need the room, remove the Veggies from the pan. Brown the Meat. ~15 min.
  5. When the meat is brown, drain the juices and oil from the pan.
  6. Stir in the Sauce ingredients with the Meat and Veggies. TIP: start light on the salt and pepper. More can be added later, to taste. Only add the water if the consistency is looking thicker than you prefer.
  7. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for at least 20 minutes. Stir occasionally.
  8. The flavor develops more over time, so if you have the time, continue simmering for another 30-120 minutes (or more!)
  9. Taste periodically through cooking. Add salt, pepper, and/or water as needed.
  10. If you're someone who likes Beans in their chili, add them 10-20 minutes before you're ready to eat. Simmer until the Beans are heated through. Otherwise, skip this step!
  11. Dish up and enjoy!!!
